STEWART L. SHANFIELD, M.D.
Dr. Shanfield attended medical school at University of Texas Health Science
Center at San Antonio. He completed his internship and residency at Los
Angeles County-USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He also completed
a fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Cornell Medical Center
in New York City. He became board certified in 1988, scoring in the 99th
percentile of his written boards.
Since joining Fullerton Orthopaedic in 1986, he has served in several elected
and appointed positions at St. Jude Medical Center. His positions have included
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief of Staff, Chairman of Surgery, Chairman
of Orthopaedics, and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics at UCI
Medical Center from 1988 to 1995. His memberships include the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle
Society, California Orthopaedic Association and Western Orthopaedic Association.
In addition to the numerous positions he has held, he is active in the local
community serving as team physician for Sunny Hills High School, California
State University Women’s Gymnastics Program, and a board member of
Fullerton Community Bank. In 2000, his peers honored him as a “Top Doctor”
of orthopaedics, which was featured in Orange Coast magazine. His interests
include arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement and restoration, sports related
injuries and foot and ankle problems.
